•LSNWJ provides legal assistance to victims and survivors of both domestic violence and sexual violence who are in need of protection from their abuser.

*New Jersey’s Domestic Violence Act of 1991 affords protection to victims of certain crimes, of certain ages, who have a “family-type” relationship with their abuser.

*New Jersey’s Sexual Assault Survivor Protection Act affords protection to survivors of sexual violence who do not have a “family-type” relationship with their abuser. The law also permits a parent or guardian to apply for protection for a child survivor.

•LSNWJ’s services are available to sexual violence and domestic violence victims and survivors for these matters regardless of age, race, color, religion, sex.

LSNWJ provides legal assistance with:

• Applying for a temporary domestic violence restraining order (TRO)
• Applying for protection (TPO) under the Sexual Assault Survivor Protection Act (SASPA)
• Amending a domestic violence (TRO) or sexual violence (SASPA) complaint
• Obtaining a Final Domestic Violence Restraining Order (FRO)
• Obtaining a Final Protection Order (FPO) in SASPA cases;

• The level of assistance provided for domestic violence and SASPA matters is determined based on the facts of the individual case and ranges from brief advice to document preparation and in-court representation.

• LSNWJ can also assist with connecting victims with local victims’ shelters and domestic violence service providers.
